PCM shape stabilization and thermal conductivity enhancement |
|
Master students (2024)
Monday 23 September 2024
Shape stabilization of phase change materials (PCM) and thermal conductivity enhancement. Preliminary comparison of various epoxy and/or thermoplastic matrix plus different content of expanded graphite and/or other conductive fillers. Preparation of selected compositions and comparative thermo-mechanical testing. Co-tutors: PhD student and post-doc |

Comparative characterisation of materials for passive cooling/thermal storage management. |
|
Master students and bachelor students (2024)
Monday 23 September 2024
Different materials will be selected for application and a systematic study of cp, diffusivity, thermal conductivity will be proposed. Various characterisation techniques will be used by cross-referencing the results, starting with materials with known properties. Characterisations will also be extended to different temperatures in the range of +4°C to 90°C. A good aptitude for laboratory work and data processing with interpretation is required. ;ore theses are available according to different material classes Co-tutor: PhD student and/or post-doc |

2. Preparation and characterisation of nano-fluids for PCM applications |
|
Master students and bachelor students (2024)
Friday 06 September 2024
Preparation and characterisation of nano-fluids for PCM applications Filled fluids (nanofluids) will be prepared to improve thermal conductivity. In particular, graphenes, CNTs, carbon black, carbon fibres, alumina or SiC will be used. Comparative characterisation of the thermal properties obtained and evaluation of potential applications. Co-tutor: PhD student and post-doc |

Characterisation of selected products, as potential source of plastic waste in the environment. |
|
(2024)
Friday 06 September 2024
Selected samples of plastic artefacts/fragments found in the environment (countryside, watercourses, lakes, forests) will be characterised in order to investigate their origin with a view to optimising their use (also for preventive purposes with reference to the formation of microplastics). Accelerated degradation tests will also be carried out. Case studies: 1) EPS; 2) grass mowing wire; 3) plant protection panels Co-tutor : postdoc (caso 3) |
