Research The main focus of my research is the evolution of behavioural and cognitive traits. At the Animal Cognition and Neuroscience lab I study the social predispositions of chicks of the domestic fowl (Gallus gallus), focusing on the unlearned preferences for animate entities, and their syntactic-like capabilities. I am also interested in the evolution of perception, learning, language and lateralization. To better understand cognition and its evolution I use a comparative and interdisciplinary approach that combines behavioural measures on different species/breeds, automatic tracking techniques, experimental evolution and genomics. |
