1983-1988: Laurea in Ingegneria dei Materiali, 110/110 cum laude at the University of Trento, Italy, with a Thesis entitled: "Characterization of Plasma Sprayed Zirconia Coatings by X-ray Diffraction"; equivalent to a BSc + MS in Materials Engineering.

Carriera accademica ed attività didattica

1990-present: Assistant Professor at the University of Trento, Department of Materials Engineering.
1996-97, 1997-98, 1998-1999, 1999-2000: Temporary Professor on “Science and Technology of Aeronautic and Aerospace Materials” at the Engineering Faculty of the University of Firenze.

2012-2014: “Chaire of Excellence” from European Community and Normandy region (FEDER) at the CRISMAT/CNRS laboratory of ENSICAEN, Caen, France.

2014-present: Associate Professor at the University of Trento, Department of Industrial Engineering.

The material characterization tool MAUD (maud.radiographema.com) developed by L. Lutterotti is now in use by thousands laboratories around the world. About 30 downloads per day from 2000.

Principal Investigator for the following international projects:

2018-2021: EIT Raw Materials project Paired-X for the development of portable instrument for the crystallographic, phase and chemical analysis of raw materials and waste for recycling.

Scientific coordinator for the local research unit of the following international projects:

2008-2011: European project Nanoair: "Development of an automated instrument for real-time, on-site qualitative analysis of full-range breathable airborne particles, including nanoparticles, using XRD technology", FP7-SME (GA ID: 222333).

2016-2020: SOLSA (H2020 GA n. 689868): SOLSA is the first automated expert system for on-site cores analysis. Phase and chemical mapping of cores for metals (Ni, Mn) identification. Coordinator for the two Departments units of the University of Trento, UNITN European funding amounting to 1.5 millions euros over a total of 10 millions euros.

2017-2019: European project PiMAS (EIT Raw materials, NoI project): a network of interaction in for portable instrumentation for the on field analysis of raw materials.
