Interessi di ricerca

Research interests focus on integrated intelligent mechanical systems, with emphasis on modelling simulation and optimal control of mechanical multibody systems, which has been applied to several fields, from space to vehicles.

In space applications, I have been involved in modelling and control of the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna ( http://sci.esa.int/science-e/www/area/index.cfm?fareaid=27 ) .

Interest in vehicles began in 1994, in the area of motorcycle dynamics.
Optimal control was first used to assess motorcycles manoeuvrability and handling.
Since 2004 I have been involved in a number of EU funded research projects focusing on vehicle dynamics and motion planning based on real time optimal control (PReVENT, SAFERIDER, interactIVe).
My interests moved also to the modelling human motor skills/capabilities (initially as part of driver models). I have been involved in an EU project in the domain of accessibility of non-ICT products (VERITAS) with the main focus of modelling elder people and people with disabilities.

My current research activity is focused on modelling virtual/artificial drivers and ultimately "companion drivers" (by combining Control and Percpetion-Action paradigm) towards the goal of robotics intelligent vehicles that interact with driver on a peer basis and that cooperates in swarms.
