Academic career and teaching activities

- 1990-1991 Winner of a national competition for a grant issued by the Italian Industrial Research Association on the topic "Study of protective coatings on metals obtained from fluorinated organic compounds" to be carried out at the Department of Materials Engineering of Trento
- 1991-1994 PhD in Materials Engineering at the University of Bologna, on the topic "Study by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy of corrosion protection properties of organic coatings on metals".
- 1995 Technician at the Department of Materials Engineering of the University of Trento (Article 26 of Presidential Decree 382/80) for research relating to the study of the properties of materials with electrochemical techniques.
- from 1/11/1995 Researcher in the grouping Materials Science and Engineering (confirmed from 01-11-1998) at the Department of Materials Engineering of the University of Trento.
- From December 2004 to 2012 Associate Professor and from 2012 Full Professor of Materials Science and Technology (ING-IND / 22) at the Department of Industrial Engineering of the University of Trento.
Visiting professor taking courses at the University of Mons (Belgium), the UNAM of Mexico City, Queensland University (Brisbane Australia) and Makerere University (Kampala, Uganda).
In the last 10 years he has taught the following courses
"Materials Science", "Technology of Materials for the Environment", "Cycle of Materials", "Corrosion and Protection of Materials" (also in English) in Engineering and "Restoration Chemistry" and " Methods of conservation and materials for cultural heritage "at the Department of Humanities.

Research interests

The main research topics are: Corrosion protection by organic coatings, Metal-polymer adhesion, Electrochemical techniques for the characterization of materials properties, Protection and Conservation of the Cultural Heritage.

On these issues he has carried out research activities both in European projects (FP7, COST, bilateral projects) and Italian projects (PRIN, etc.) and regularly carries out evaluation activities on both national and international research projects (Norway, Belgium, Canada, France, Portugal, Poland).

He is editor of an international journal (International Journal of Corrosion) and he is member of the editorial board of others 3. He is active as reviewer of many international journals.

Other work

From 2000 to 2012 he was the coordinator of the European project Leonardo da Vinci, for international stage mobility, for the consortium including the Universities of Trento, Verona, Udine, Bolzano and della Basilicata.
From 2010 to 2013 he acted as University Delegate for Erasmus Project.
From April 2013 he is component of the University Board (Senato Accademico) assuming the role of University Delegate for International Mobility.
From April 2015, with the new Rector of the University of Trento, he is component of the University Board (Senato Accademico) assuming the role of Deputy Rector and University Delegate for supporting the productive system.
From September 2015 he is component of the Administration Board of Hub Innovazione Trentino (HIT), consortium promoting research and technology transfer in the Trento province.
From December 2016 is component of the Supervisory Board of the KIC (Knowledge and Innovation Community) of EIT (European Institute of Innovation and Technology) Digital. From March 2018 he is component of the Administration Board of Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK)
