Research interests

My research has concentrated mainly on households’ economic choices (consumption, savings, labour supply) and their consequences on welfare and inequality, both at a theoretical and empirical level, in developed (mainly Europeans) and developing countries. More precisely, I’ve been working in two main areas. First, I examined the evolution and causes of economic inequality between households (employment, income, health), with a focus on European countries. Second, I analysed specific problems of household choices in developing countries, such as ex-ante and ex-post risk-coping strategies, the use of remittances for consumption vs. human capital investment, the role of some psychological factors in determining poor people agency. Recent microeconometric techniques have been used in most of the papers, whereas few of them are based on qualitative research methods.
