1998: Ph.D in Geotechnical Engineering at the "Politecnico di Torino”.(Italy), with the dissertation “Planar sliding phenomena in the Langhe region”.

Teaching:

Lucia Simeoni has taught undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate courses, as well as continuing education projects at the University of Trento, University of Udine, University of Trieste and University of L’Aquila.
She has taught courses in:

- Geotechnical Monitoring.

- Earth Pressure and Retaining Structures.

Lucia Simeoni coordinated activities aimed at defining the feasibility and obtaining the approval for the Masters Course “Analysis and Management of Geotechnical Systems – SIGEO” organized by the consortium of University of Trento, “Politecnico di Torino” and University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.

Research work

Research:
Lucia Simeoni’s research interests lie mainly in the field of reliability assessment and data validation for  long term field monitoring and early warning systems. This involves the study of instrument conformance, depending on the type of instrument and the installation procedure; the definition of data processing methods for evaluating precision and accuracy of measurements; the analysis of the phenomenon to be measured in order to define the coherence of measurements. She would also like to develop future research on monitoring in the field of sustainable transportation infrastructure, including: the prediction of landslide movements depending on pore pressure changes and soil viscosity; soil-structure interaction, with special reference to highways and railways, risk management and infrastructure maintenance.

2003-2005: Performance of inclinometer and convergence measurements in the tunnels Monte Giuseppe, Marlengo and Tell of the railway Merano-Malles. Jointly with Prof. Mongiovì (University of Trento), Contractor: Società Trasporti Alto Adigge, 6.000 Euro.
2004-2008: Definition of a method for analysing the hazard of the Adige river embankments and design criteria of remedial works. Jointly with Prof. Mongiovì (University of Trento), Contractor: Autonomous province of Bolzano, 75.000 Euro.

Administration

Since 2005 to 2008: coordinator of the activities aimed at defining the feasibility and obtaining the approval for the Masters Course “Analysis and Management of Geotechnical Systems – SIGEO” organized in 2007-2008 by the consortium of University of Trento, “Politecnico di Torino” and University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. Lucia Simeoni facilitates the start-up and management of the Masters Course, that involves 39 teachers.

Since 2010 to 2014: Vice-president of Trentino Trasporti S.p.A., a quango whose aims are the management, maintenance and upgrade of public transportation and where she is involved in coordinating the R&D activities.

Since 2016 to 2018: member of the Self-valutation group (GAV) of Civil Engineering.

Since 2018 to present: member of the Teaching Committee of Civil Engineering.

Since 2022 to present: alternate member of the Board of Discipline of the University of Trento

Occasionally, since 1999 to 2011, Lucia Simeoni has been consulting engineer for public administrations and private studios, mainly for slope stability analyses and geotechnical investigations.
