The 25th Conference of the International Reynard Society, an informal scientific association dedicated to the study of animals in Medieval literature, will take place in Italy. The venue for the 50th anniversary edition, which marks the establishment of the Society, will be the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Dolomites.

The program will feature a series of lectures by over 50 Italian and international experts, and young scholars. These lectures will examine the multifaceted aspects of medieval literary zoology and how animals are integrated into the narrative structures of various literary genres. This often involves dialogue with the iconographic apparatus, which is a crucial element in medieval manuscripts, because it establishes a mutual correlation between text and images, between commentary and ornamentation.

The primary subjects of analysis will be the animals that serve as heroes − or, on occasion, anti-heroes − in epic poetry; the talking animals in the fables; the allegorical animals in the bestiaries; and the animals that feature in bourgeois everyday life in the fabliaux.
